Made from the slender, tightly grained hardwood branches of the Pacific Northwest Serviceberry, which is a beautiful flowering tree (up to 40’ tall). The trees are covered in nearly perfect white flowers in the spring, and in summer are full of edible berries used and traded by natives and early settlers.
The branches of the serviceberry are perfect for rune sets and amulets, and I have been making them from trees in my own back yard for 20 years. This summer I will be coloring (staining) them a deep reddish color made from the berries!
