"Out to pasture"

$90.00

This 1959 Chevy Apache truck was once someone’s pride and joy. It played an enormous role in the owner’s life and his countless memories—from romantic date nights to hard-working days on the job, it was far more than just a man’s wheels and reliable transportation. This truck was an extension of his very identity and spirit.

In 2019, I was profoundly struck by this thought when I saw it while working on a wind power project in rural South Dakota. My next reflection was bittersweet: now, this once shiny and beautiful truck is quietly rusting away out in the wild grass, slowly sinking into the earth like so much scrap metal from a bygone era. I was humbled as I realized that not too far off in my own future, I may also be put out to pasture.

The tall, verdant green grass that surrounds the forgotten old truck stands in perfect, vivid opposition, creating a striking and harmonious contrast, reminding us that there are always two sides to everything. This is when I truly began to understand that it is time itself that teaches us the deepest lessons in perspective.
