Elephants on Parade

$45.00

This ink drawing layered over watercolor was created purely for fun. Back in 1987, during my senior year of high school, while most of my friends were immersed in sports, girls, cowboy life, partying, or crafting their social image (not necessarily in that order), I dedicated a significant amount of my time to developing and refining my artwork. Some days I still find it hard to imagine myself confidently walking through the school halls carrying this whimsical drawing!

A girl friend from photography class had taken a photo of these elephants while visiting the San Diego Zoo on vacation. Each elephant was smiling in such a joyful way that I was inspired to capture their happiness in a drawing. I just couldn’t put them in a circus ring in the artwork; instead, I “released them” into their true habitat.

I planned to expand this concept into a full series featuring giraffes, hippos, lions, hyenas, ostriches, crocodiles, and other “happy” African animals. Someday, there might even be a children’s book inspired by this joyful collection!
